Linda, 65, is partially sighted and has cerebral palsy. She is a frequent visitor to hospital, where she can often have four or five appointments in one day.
Without the Broxbourne Health Shuttle, a service run by WRVS volunteers, Linda would have to rely on taxis or the bus.
“For me to get to hospital it takes two and a half hours and three buses, it’s too much, sometimes I’ve got halfway there on the bus and passed out. You’ve got a two and a half hour journey, then the wait, then whatever they’re going to do, then the journey back, it can be quite stressful especially if you’ve got news that isn’t good.
“Shopping is my biggest problem… John Lewis in Welwyn Garden City is somewhere I’d like to go but it takes a major military exercise or an arm and leg in expenses.”
