Fight the freeze campaign

Your help is desperately and urgently needed as we face the coldest winter months.
With your help we can
fight the freeze and make
a real difference at this
critical time of year.
It’s a shocking fact that each year an extra 22,000 older people die during the winter from the effects of cold weather – and these deaths are preventable. We urgently need donations so we can reach out to more of those who need our help this winter.

WRVS is the largest national charity making life better for older people. In the last severe winter weather, we begged and borrowed 4x4 vehicles so we could deliver hot meals to thousands of people every day who were relying on us. In places where conditions were too bad for driving, our volunteers trekked on foot through the snow to deliver meals. Can you imagine how much that meant to people feeling trapped and isolated in their homes, to see a friendly face appear and reassure them they were not forgotten?

Thanks to your support, WRVS volunteers were able to make life better for 100,000 people every month last year. But as temperatures drop, older people’s lives are at risk right now. We’re determined to reach as many people as we possibly can, and it doesn’t take much to make a difference, something as simple as a hot meal or some blankets could be all that is needed.
Thank you very much
Meals on Wheels volunteers recently helped an elderly man living on a farm. Power to the farm had gone off in bad weather and temperatures were dangerously low. As well as hot food, the WRVS team took a flask of hot water and a ‘winter warmer’ pack which included a blanket, gloves, torch and handwarmers. They checked that he was safe and well and stayed with him until a friend arrived to keep him company until the power was restored.
