Why volunteer

It's simple – we need your help to make a difference.
We believe that with your help, more older people can stay active and independent and can continue to contribute to their community.
Our surveys show that people volunteer with us and stay with us because they can see that they are doing something worthwhile.
Anyone who volunteers for WRVS knows that they are joining a charity which people trust - our style is practical, positive, personal and professional.
The pattern of our services varies in different places and although we are creating more WRVS community hubs in more towns, it may be that we have not begun to expand where you are just yet.
Please still register your interest – we're going to need lots of people to do lots of different things – driving, reading, working in a shop or in a hospital ward, or just visiting someone regularly. We also need help with specialist roles – like social media, interviewing or organising things.
We know that most people who volunteer give their time in order to help others, but there is a secondary benefit – volunteering is good for you. Working with other people, meeting new friends and knowing that you are making a difference help you stay fit and active and give you a chance to support other volunteers. Some people try to learn new skills through volunteering, others use voluntary work to add to their CV or to give an edge to the career-application, and of course, working in your WRVS team means that you can help or be helped by others in the team.
