Winnie has been going to the Isabel Blackman centre four days a week for a fortnight. She realised that she was very lonely, depressed and she had stopped eating.
"I started coming because I was lonely, I’ve got a friend here and I thought I’d try it. "It’s very lonely in the flats where I live, I got very low and I wasn’t eating anything, I lost a lot of weight. I thought I’ve got to do something, if I come down here I’ve got to eat. It's lonely when you’re on your own. "I’ve known about this place for years but I didn’t come down earlier because I wasn’t in a state. I was going out and about on my own or with friends but I’m that much older now and I can’t do what I used to do. "I don’t like being by myself, I’d rather be with company. I live in a big block of flats but people don’t mix. As you get older you can’t mix like you used to and lots of people don’t do anything. The majority don’t come out of their flats anymore. "If the centre wasn’t here I don’t know of anywhere else I could go, there is nowhere else. In the two weeks I’ve been coming I’m eating better, I’ve got to know quite a few people." Winnie, 81
