Hereford children become stars

Christmas stars at WRVS Riverside Community Learning Centre

WRVS volunteers have been busy promoting WRVS' campaign to 'be a star this Christmas' across Herefordshire where local schools and childcare services have supported us and joined in the campaign.

The campaign linked well with some of the work currently being undertaken by the community centre involving intergenerational and reminiscence work. For over a year, WRVS has been linking various clubs and sheltered housing groups with their local primary schools as part of a European Project called TEDDY BEAR.

The project is promoting the concept of living history and helping to develop valuing relationships between older people and children. The be a star Campaign has been enjoyed by lots of the children who have written a message with the older people in mind who that have got to know and call their "friend".

The brightly coloured stars and messages from the school children are on display at the Riverside Centre along with stars that have been sent in as part of the nationwide campaign.

It's not too late to show your support for WRVS' be a star campaign, for more information about how you can raise awareness about loneliness in older people. e-mail your MP, take part on our online survey or just be a star by making a donation or becoming a WRVS volunteer.
